RISING WATERS

If you didn't get a chance to see us last time... we are incredibly excited to invite you to the FIFTH EDITION of „MSG & Friends" which is a monthly event series dedicated to carving out a safer, vibrant space for all performers and artists of Asian heritage. This month's theme is RISING WATERS.

This space seeks to provide opportunity for representation where there has not been opportunity before to folks of Asian-descent.

We passionately believe in supplying an interdisciplinary space where our voices can be heard in order to contribute to the further deconstruction of harmful racist narratives that still surround the Other, that is the Asian body.

Vivienne Lovecraft is your bubblegum fae of the night. She loves spooky fairy tales, make-up and the impeachment of a certain "president". Join her dancing in the glittery night and embrace every aspect of the queer spectrum. The moonlit night is ours and we dance until the patriarchy is on it's knees.

Minerva is a queer Femme of Colour who found her home in writing and the rough, deep sea.
Rather than choosing between professions and identities, rather than being torn apart, she is looking for all the sweet ways to connect them, to put together all the beautiful pieces of a story to be whole. She tells tales of intensity, the most honest thoughts, even if they hurt, and existing unapologetically in a world that specifically tells us not to.

Samin Son utilizes a variety of media and objects for instrumentalisation and expression. His work manifests itself through live concerts and performances (both choreographed and improvised), sound production, videos, paintings, installations, as well as dj sets and podcasts. Areas of interest include myths and ideas about (re)birth, (re)death, and cycles of life. Focusing on patterns of repetition and transformative processes, Samin explores story telling through symbolisms we find in life.

OLIVIA HYUNSIN KIM works as a choreographer, performer, musician and curator in Berlin, Frankfurt a. M. and Seoul. Her performance "Miss Yellow and Me - I wanna be a musical" won the first prize of the art award “Amadeu Antonio prize” in 2019. She graduated with distinction from the Institut für Angewandte Theaterwissenschaft Gießen and the HfMDK Frankfurt with a master's degree in choreography and performance. As "ddanddarakim" she collaborates with various artists. Her MeMe series "she came, she saw, she said:meme" (part 1), "MeMe - I see. Ah!" (Part 2) and "Miss Yellow and Me - I wanna be a musical" (Part 3) toured internationally and dealt with exoticism in relation to non-white, "other" bodies. In “Yellow Banana” she takes the audience as an “authentic” banana (outside yellow, inside white) to a jaw-dropping journey across the continent and celebrate the 250 million years anniversary of the Eurasian Plate. Her latest performance installation "Say My Name, Say My Name" has premiered in September at Sophiensæle and has been shown at the Art Sonje Center Seoul and Gallustheater Frankfurt. Since 2019 she has been curating together with Daniel Brunet and Shlomo Lieberman the EXPO Festival at the English Theater Berlin|IPAC.
